2010 Olympics!

Are you an Olympaholic"? I think I am. Are there support meetings? "Hi. My name is Sabrina and I am an Olympaholic." Every two years, my family must fight with me for the television as it is tuned to the Olympic action -- be it Summer Games or Winter Games -- for the duration. It starts with two weeks of anticipation for the Opening Ceremony! Oh, my gosh! Continues with me cheering aloud and jumping around, cheering for Team USA in absolutely every sport! By the closing ceremomy, I am exhausted and feeling guilty for having left my work table for so many hours. Thank goodness it is only once every two years! GO TEAM USA!!!

South Carolina Snowfall on 2/12/10

I live in the Midlands of South Carolina. We get a "dusting" up to maybe an inch of snow every 3-4 years. Normally. This year is not normal -- as many of you are achingly aware! Tonight, we are predicted to get about 4-6" of snow. Thank goodness it is a Friday night because, if it were during the week, the entire area would shut down! My husband is a baker in a major grocery store chain and the panic has begun! Water, bread and other necessities of life are disappearing off the shelves almost faster than they can be stocked! We, ourselves, have filled all of our cars (mine, my hubby's, and our oldest daughter's) up with gas in anticipation of power outages. Luckily, I keep a fairly well-stocked pantry and freezer so we should be okay in that area. Kelsey (my oldest daughter, in college) is "skipping school" today and my youngest is schooled at home -- no getting away from that! They both have Monday off for President's Day. I saw a funny sign on television just now. It was a sign in front of a church. It read, "Whoever was praying for snow - thank you. Now, please stop!" lol! I will be busy all day making jewelry and doing laundry. I'm thinking about putting on a big pot of soup and making sandwiches for dinner tonight. Light a fire in the fireplace and watch the snow fall. UPDATE 2/15/10 ? We received 7? of snow ? power stayed on! Everyone in our family stayed safe and I got some really great pictures during a snowball fight with some neighborhood kids!

I had dinner with some "old" friends last night.  We went to a barbecue place (I don't eat barbecue, but had a pretty decent Shrimp Po'boy).  We all homeschooled our children together and most of our group have graduated their children and are now in the portion of their lives where they rebuild their identity.  I'm not saying they lost their identity, but it got set aside for the time of their lives they dedicated to their children.  None of us would trade that for anything in the world ... but it is a strange feeling when suddenly, your "job description" changes.

We got into a discussion about how difficult it is for us, as (former) homeschooling parents, to keep our mouths shut when we see potential trouble brewing in our college-aged children's lives.  Economic times being what they are, all of our c-a children are still living at home.  They want to go hang out with friends when they have an exam the next day -- or stay up into the wee hours chatting with friends online ... they allow their laundry to pile up, and maybe not keep their rooms the way we demanded when they were younger ... but we bite our tongues and know that just having them home with us a little longer is a blessing and will be over before we really wish it.

Well,  before I go get a tissue .. I want to wish you all a wonderful day and enjoy the beauty!
