"Good News, Bad News, and a Reminder"

My husband and I will be celebrating 27 years of wedded bliss in the next few days.  :D  We knew each other for two months, dated for one before we got married.  I certainly do not recommend this for everyone, but it worked for us!  My husband asked me to marry him every time we went out from the second date on!  I would always laugh, but he remained serious ... and relentless.  We had both been married before and were older, maybe that is why it worked for us.

How to Stay Alive!

“How to Stay Alive!”

Since early man, humans have yearned for adornment. The earliest discovered jewelry (100,000 years old!) shares simple design elements with elements in today’s pieces. Materials and tools may change, as well as the artist’s expertise. It is the prudent artist that remains abreast of these changes and continually hones their skill...

How Can I Find Highland Games and Renaissance Faires?

Many is the time that I meet someone who is attending their first event.

A friend may have brought them, or they heard it on the radio, or was a billboard … if we get a chance to talk, they are often surprised to learn there are more events going on!

Of course, we all hope the event coordinators have done a great job of advertising their upcoming events. Many of us busines...

... While Everyone Else is Writing About Easter ...

I guess I am old enough to remember when Spring Break was the week after Easter!

Regardless, today I wish to remind everyone of TARTAN DAY, which falls every April 6th.  If you are of Scottish decent, please wear your tartan with pride that day and bring attention to the great contributions Scots have made...

Five Business Lessons or Little Tips I Have Learned

Honestly, I had NO idea what I was going to write about this topic until I actually wrote the title out on a piece of paper.  Then it came to me.  Kind of, what did you wish you had known that you know now kind of a thing.

  1. Whatever craft you choose, get WAY more storage containers that you think you will need! ...

Happy St. Patrick’s Day and a Not-So-Happy Anniversary!

St. Patrick’s Day is the 17th … ummm … today!  One day, not long ago, I subbed for a junior high class and they had NOT a CLUE what St. Patrick’s Day was all about – other than the wearing of green clothes. It made me wonder how many people don&...

Have I mentioned to you all that I have a "nine-to-five" J.O.B.?  I am a Substitute Teacher for two school districts here in Texas.  Two, because between them both, they keep me working pretty full-time.  I do not have to drive far -- or DOWNTOWN to SAN ANTONIO --shudder--  There is flexibility in the job so I can just show myself "Unavailable" on the scheduling site when I am traveling for Lavender Lace Celtic, or for whatever else I have going on.

Where Is Your Store?

"Where is your store"

I get this question quite frequently.  I LOVE to hear it!  It means that the customer standing in front of me enjoys my work and wants access to more of it!

Well, thank goodness for the Internet!  I have a studio, but not a "bricks-n-sticks" store.  Not only is Lytle, Texas a small town (populat...

Crap. It's My Birthday.

Yep.  That title pretty much sums up how I feel about my birthdays nowadays.  I am also quite sure I am not alone in this feeling.

When we were kids, we could not wait to get older so we could stay up later and maybe join in conversations without being hushed.  Then, we realized we needed to get older to get that coveted driver's license!  ...

Ten Things NOT to Say to an Artist or Crafter

Posted by Sabrina Robertson on February 17, 2015 at 4:15 PM Comments comments (0)

This title reminded me of when I was back in high school. My family and I were going to an Art Show in downtown Fort Walton Beach, Florida. My art teacher was going to be one of the artists highlighted at the show. She had been in Who's Who of Artists and (I considered her) a big deal. As we were driving into town, my dad said, "When I meet Mrs. ....., I'm gonna say, 'Boy! You shore do draw good!'" I was mortified! "NO! You are not even allowed to speak to her at ALL, DAD! You Hear Me...
